Bystronic at Blechexpo – complete spectrum of possibilities
Visitors to the Bystronic exhibition booth at Blechexpo
2007 in Stuttgart
were able to expect a great deal: Competent and comprehensive advice, solutions
along the complete sheet metal processing process chain of as well as from all
the company's Business Units and an unusual opportunity to become a climber.
Laser cutting, waterjet cutting, bending. In addition, the extremely popular Software Forum, first class advice, a perfect service and exemplary customer care: The Bystronic exhibition booth at this year's Blechexpo left very few – if any at all – expectations unfulfilled. Far more, it made clear that with an attractive package of products and services Bystronic has set itself the task of ensuring the continued economic ascent of its customers. The guests were additionally offered another very special form of ascent: A nine meter high climbing wall on which one could not only test one's skill at racing to the peak but could also – in keeping with the theme – win Mammut functional jackets as well as visits to the UEFA Euro 2008. "I am sure that we got our message across to our visitors at the Blechexpo: Anyone involved in sheet metal processing who puts their trust in Bystronic is really reaching for the summit", explains a clearly well-pleased Patrick Diederich, Managing Director of Bystronic Deutschland GmbH.
Laser cutting: Dynamism and simplicity
The Bystronic laser cutting system portfolio was represented at the new Stuttgart exhibition by two systems: On the one hand with ByVention, the smallest laser cutting machine for standard sheet metal formats, and on the other with Byspeed, which thanks to its extraordinary dynamics is currently one of the most sought-after machines on the market.
At last year's Euroblech in Hanover, Germany, ByVention celebrated its tempestuous market launch; it received much praise and an early round of applause and for some months now has been getting ready to fulfill these expectations. "The list of ByVention customers in Germany is also getting longer. And based on the feedback so far received, I am sure that this machine will well and truly stir up the market", comments Patrick Diederich.
The advantages of the ByVention can be described briefly and concisely by five expressions: It is simple, compact, clever, reassuring and complete. Simple because it is so easy for any user to operate; the training required to be able to achieve high quality production results is minimal. Compact, because with a footprint of just six by six meters it makes the most of the available space. Clever because with its innovative material flow concept it makes the cut parts available immediately and offers exemplary flexibility when processing material of various sizes as well as skeleton sheets. Reassuring because with a two year warranty and preventive maintenance it enables the user continuous operation around the clock.
The ByVention has been consistently designed to meet the needs of the market. An empirical survey shows that approximately eighty percent of all parts cut by laser cutting machines are processed using a sheet thickness of maximum eight millimeters with a format of 500 times 500 millimeters. The machine is designed for this spectrum and makes no compromises with relation to the dimensions and the material thicknesses that are seldom cut. The result is a previously unachieved efficiency with the lowest possible prices. Or put another way: Compared with other high quality laser cutting machines, the customer gets a machine at around half the normal investment cost, with which they can process some eighty percent of the spectrum of parts.
The highest level of dynamism and top cutting results are the most striking features of the Byspeed laser cutting machine. Its extremely high cutting speed and the shortest of throughput times for an order turn it into a productivity driver in the user's workshop. This is ensured, amongst other things, by the state-of-the-art cutting technologies and the piercing methods.
High demands upon both the system concept as well as the laser source that arise from these technologies have been consistently implemented: unlike conventional linear drives, the DHM drive, one of Bystronic’s numerous in-house developments, is able to accelerate both Byspeed axles up to 3 g with around a thirtieth of the magnetic material. Moreover, the performance spectrum of the Bystronic laser sources extends up to six kilowatts constant output power. All the lasers switch their power on and off without delay, whereby it must be stated that even with the very high cutting speed, precise cuts can still be achieved.
Waterjet cutting: Byjet with automation
During recent years, the market for waterjet cutting machines has achieved enormous growth rates. The fact that Bystronic's growth has increased at well above average is evidence of the high quality of the machines and the associated services offered. In this context, the machines of the Byjet series have played a significant role as the only waterjet cutting machines worldwide that can be equipped as standard with a shuttle table, which increases productivity by as much as 30 percent and which also facilitates the use of additional automation levels such as a swivel loader. With this system, Bystronic customers profit from the HPT (High Precision Tool) cutting head, which operates with high precision, and the Bypump APC ultrahigh-pressure pump with active pressure control. The famous Bystronic principle of “everything from one source” is applied to both components: the cutting head as well as the pump both come from Bystronic’s own development department and are – as are all Bystronic components – perfectly matched to one another.
The cutting head operates with high precision which means that thanks to the optimal abrasive flow the cutting performance is maintained at a uniquely high level. The cutting valve offers extremely short switching times, which in turn allows minimum pulsing. The result is that the system has unique precision due to the CNC-controlled height detector that maintains an exact clearance between the cutting head and cutting material and therefore the cutting jet is always ideally directed onto the material.
The “intelligent” and extremely cost-efficient ultra high pressure pump, the Bypump APC, has two separately driven pressure intensifies that are regulated by a micro-controller and guarantee a constant, linear and infinitely variable control of the pressure. An extensive and automatic diagnostics system monitors and displays over 20 signals to ensure that process reliability is excellent and maintenance is fast and efficient. The cutting head and ultrahigh-pressure pump together have significantly reduced energy and abrasive consumptions, and they provide a significant increase in cutting power as compared to conventional systems. This means that customers can be certain they have a system that ideally combines economy, precision and productivity when they use the Byjet.
Bending: Impressive bandwidth
Whether high-end Hämmerle-3P systems, top-class Beyeler PR systems or mid-range AFM-EP series systems – Bystronic is the only supplier able to offer the optimal pressbrake to meet all challenges. Visitors to the Bystronic exhibition booth at the Blechexpo had the opportunity to see demonstrations of a Hämmerle 3P and a Beyeler PR pressbrake.
Hämmerle-3P series systems continue to be the most precise pressbrakes available on the market, which is due in particular to their unique 3-point bending technology. This is a process similar to block bending that is used to deliver first-class results for the most demanding orders. The hydraulic cushion provides constant power distribution and automatic overload protection for the tools as well as the whole system and full compensation of machine-related bending variations. The Hämmerle slim, segmented tool system with hydraulic clamping ensures that the system has maximum efficiency, flexibility and productivity.
Also perfect are the bending results achieved with the Beyeler PR series of pressbrakes. This is guaranteed amongst other things by the automatic bending pressure control and the hydraulic active crowning. What is known as the IPC technology, which permits the bending angle to be checked without mechanical measuring methods and without interfering with the control or changing the machine parameters, has already awarded the coveted British “Metalworking Production Award” and also contributes considerably to the satisfaction of Bystronic customers.
Software: Up to Date
Another recurring crowd puller is the Bystronic Software Forum. The same applied to this year's Blechexpo. This was certainly not least due to the fact that word has spread on the market that with its Bysoft CAD/CAM program package, Bystronic supplies perhaps what is the most user-friendly and high-performance applications for cutting and bending. This was verified at the Software Forum. Furthermore, the remote diagnostics, which since this year have enriched the Bystronic service portfolio, were also demonstrated. Using this instrument, the customer can give the Bystronic Helpline access to process-related data and the current status of the individual machine components so that maintenance work can be initiated and executed even faster and more efficiently.
"We have a fantastic exhibition booth manned by highly motivated and qualified personnel, impressive exhibits and, as part of the supporting program, even a climbing wall. But most important of all are the customers who visit us here at the Blechexpo. Each and every one of them is competently and comprehensively advised by our staff", is how the head of Bystronic Deutschland summarizes the events on the Bystronic booth.
